Bark Out Loud: Would You Wear a Sweater Made from Your Dog’s Fur?

Sooooo…. this has been making the rounds on the Interwebs this month: French photographer Erwan Fichou‘s 2007 portrait series of “dogs and their masters wearing coats or sweaters carefully knitted from lovingly gathered dog hair”. This isn’t a new phenomenon by any means (have you seen the Crafting with Cat Hair book? *shudder*), but it does pose an unavoidable question:
Would you, dear Dog Milkers, ever wear a sweater made from dog fur? Why or why not?

Bark out loud in the comments below!
[Thanks to Jen for sending this my way!]

YES! Without a doubt.
We already wear enough dog and cat fur in this house without having to go to the trouble to knit anything! I’d buy something made of dog/cat hair if and only if the proceeds of the sale went to support no kill shelters. But I wouldn’t wear it, lest my own Mob think I’d been two-timing with other animals!
No. Even if it were my dog’s fur I think it sends an AWFUL message about perpetuating the wearing of FUR of ANY kind
I agree with Caren, I wouldn’t want to send the message out that it’s ok to wear any kind of fur. Plus, wouldn’t it smell?
Spun dog hair is known as chiengora. Depending on the dog’s coat type, it can be next to skin soft or it can be too scratchy for anything except outerwear. It is no more wierd than many of the other animal fibers that are collected and spun, from sheep to bison to alpaca to rabbits to yaks to goats, you get the idea.
My dog’s fur is much too short to be spun but if it could be done, I would proudly wear it.
Good comment, Cate.
It is NOT fur with leather, it is yarn. I have only mittens from my friends friendly dog. Warm but tickles a bit.

I’d like but I have a dalmatian… it would take infinity…
