I’m a little picky when it comes to T-shirts — the only ones I feel truly comfortable in are American Apparel cotton tees. So how did I miss that American Apparel has a full line of dog stuff? Wrigley wanted me to remind you all, in case you’d forgotten, that it’s hoodie weather! I mean, what’s more appropriate for a day of curling up with your favorite blanket and sleeping the winter away than a colorful and stylish hoodie? Not much, except for maybe a Hot Toddy (but dog’s don’t drink, so there’s that). If your pup could use an extra layer of warmth this winter, you’ll definitely want to check out these cozy Paul Frank hoodies from 26 Bars & a Band!

They come in three styles: Faux Hawk (red), Julius (blue), and Scoot Julius (black). Wrigley had the pleasure of trying out the red Faux Hawk hoodie (it brings out the color in his eyes).

I’ll admit, I was surprised when I pulled this hooded sweatshirt out of the box — the thickness and quality of the sweatshirt material is better than most you can find for, you know, people. It’s incredibly soft and, more importantly, WARM. Very, very warm in fact. It wasn’t long before Wrigley got super cozy and decided that an extended nap in his new favorite hoodie was the best course of action to take (see last photo).

If your dog is more on the active, let’s-go-conquer-the-snow-covered-world side of things, there is a slit opening in the back so you can easily attach a leash to their collar. It’s also designed to allow for, um, mess-free “business” while you’re out and about.

Each of these licensed, cotton/polyester blend Paul Frank hoodies is available in four sizes: small, medium, large, and extra large. For reference, a size large fit Wrigley perfectly (he’s about 18 pounds). So, most small to medium-ish dogs will be able to find a size that fits.

My husband and I have this running joke that whenever we take a trip anywhere, Dottie wants us to bring her back a T-shirt. (She never gets a T-shirt.) If you are one to treat your pup to the occasional tee, however, you’ll be happy to know that T-shirt purveyor extraordinaire, Threadless, has new graphic hoodies for dogs. The temperature has dropped, the snow is sticking, and winter is officially upon us! Daily walks are a must in this house, their importance only paralleled by the need to stay warm and dry. (I grew up in Arizona — being cold and wet is not an option!!) Smash and Wrigley have similarly intense feelings about being dry and cozy. I’ll admit, when the Canada Fouse Coat from FouFoug Dog arrived for us to try out, I was a little jealous. If there was a matching human version, I would totally wear it. I mean, c’mon, look at how stylish this bad boy is!

We tried this coat out on a particularly cold, snowy, and windy day — one where we were the only people (and dogs) insane enough to be outside. I was quickly reduced to a whimpering, shivering mess while Smash pranced around like he was at a beach resort in July. After a full walk, he was happier than ever and, I’m happy to report, this jacket was as dry as could be. Snow had collected on top, but hadn’t soaked through, and after Smash had a chance to shake it everywhere, we removed it to see how warm it was. Let’s just say Smash had turned into a Shih Tzu-shaped hot water bottle and the coat itself stayed warm for a while after we took it off. That sucker is seriously insulated!

So what’s the verdict? This water-resistant winter coat gets some serious points for functionality and style — 2 paws way up!
