Mijo & Bambi is a San Francisco-based small pet company that makes dog apparel from mostly organic, remnant, and/or recycled fabrics for toy breed dogs. Each piece is made locally in downtown San Francisco. Three percent of each purchase is donated to animals in need.
Although the battle for total acceptance is far from over, it is wonderful to see that more people are starting to accept the graying boundaries of what defines a family unit. I was excited when I discovered that Best in Show, one of my favorite San Francisco pet stores, had developed a private label line with products that celebrate and honor one type of modern family we’re seeing today.
Martha Stewart has a few new pet products for Spring including three-piece bowl sets, cotton hoodies, and neoprene tug toys. What struck my fancy, though were these athletic-style windbreakers with convenient back pocket, perfect for April Showers. See the entire collection at Petsmart.

I love this Union Jack harness I found from UK-based dog company Mutts & Hounds. Made to order, each harness is created from British textile designer, Emily Bond’s rustic printed linens and has an adjustable Velcro fastening. Check out the other great British-inspired items at Mutts & Hounds like their coats, neckerchiefs, and dog bone toys. Dachshund owners should also check out this red dachshund harness:
The Hydrant is the Etsy shop of Lindsay Shostal where she sells her handmade collars, leashes, and most recently doggie legwarmers, all with a whimsical almost storybook theme. Using rainbow and bright colors, as well as prints like sock monkeys or Japanese comics, each piece will make you smile and remember that you can’t really take doggie accessories too seriously.
If you live in a hipster-hub like I do, you and your pooch are going to want to fit into your surroundings as much as possible (so as not to be outed as the yuppie you really are). These vintage dog tanks and shirts from Black Baron Kingdom might be just the look your dog needs to add to his (and your) street-cred. In fact, they’re so cool, they may just divert attention away from the iPad sticking out of your Jack Spade bag. Check out the huge selection available in a range of sizes.
I am slightly obsessed with Silly Buddy. After seeing Buddy on the Etsy homepage a few days in a row in his adorable bow ties, I knew I had to take a closer look. And boy is he silly. Any by silly I mean awesome.
