You may recall that one of the items on my 13 Project list was to make and donate fleece blankets to a local rescue. Well, I finally sat down over the weekend and got started making these cozy little blankets. I’m only about halfway through the 25 I plan on donating to Friends of Animals Utah, but trust me when I say that these are insanely easy!! If you can use scissors, you can make these. Heck, get some friends together and make a night of it! Your local shelter animals will thank you. Interested? Let’s get started!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- fleece (1 yard will make one large blanket or two small blankets)
Step 1: Cut your fleece to the desired size — no need to be precise. Keep in mind that 1 yard(ish) makes one large blanket or two small blankets. Just eyeball it!
Step 2: With your scissors, go around the edges of your blanket and cut 2 inch wide strips (approximately). Again, no need for perfection!
Step 3: Cut the corners out. You don’t need ’em.
Step 4: Go around again and cut each of the wide strips in half. (The reason we don’t just do this to begin with is to guarantee that each strip has a match/pair.)
Step 5: Tie each pair of strips into double knots. You’ll notice that your blanket is starting to get all bunched up and weird looking. No worries! After all your knots are tied, gently tug and pull all the sides out straight again.
And that’s it! You’re done! Toss that newly made blanket to your pup, put it in their crate, or keep going and make as many fleece blankets as your heart can handle — then donate them!
