DOG-I-Y: A Modern Dog Crate Coffee Table
Editor’s Note: You barked and we listened! DoggIY is a new monthly column here on Dog Milk where we feature modern DIY dog projects. We’ll be sharing everything from homemade treats to pet beds–and beyond!

We’re kicking our brand spanking new column off with a bang, a sexy birch plywood bang that is. This DIY dog crate coffee table is the brilliant creation of Erin Loechner and her husband Ken who, after a no-luck search for an affordable modern pet crate, decided to make their own. It’s also now the nap time location of Bernie and George (remember those cuties?)!

Erin walks us through all steps involved, from design to execution, over on HGTV.com. Meanwhile, let’s brainstorm! How would you customize this dog crate coffee table idea to suit your needs? Would you leave the wood raw or paint it? Share your thoughts!

This is pretty, but I feel like there’s something very unsettling about locking your dog up in your coffee table when you leave the house.
Like many pet owners, I wondered whether dog crates were cruel and unusual punishment. Am I depriving my dogs of the freedom they crave? Would placing them in a dog crate have a negative impact on their disposition? Would they be happy?
Looks a bit like a coffin, could be much more open on one side.
with 3 dogs at home the cage is guardian angel when I go out for a lill´bitt . otherwise the sofa & bed had not managed till I got back home. but i don´t think I had managed to put my lill puppies into the coffee table … it needs a bitt more “air” or something…
