The following post is brought to you by Solid Gold Holistic Pet Nutrition. We’re very paw-ticular about our partners and only feature those we think are top dog.

As a pet parent, one of your most important responsibilities is to provide your dog with the best possible food you can — and with all the pet foods on the market, this can sometimes be a very daunting task! When we first adopted Wrigley, he came to us with a variety of digestive issues which were caused, in large part, by the low quality kibble he’d spent the first part of his life, well, NOT digesting. We slowly worked our way up the premium-quality food chain as I began to learn about different ingredients and trustworthy brands. Fast forward 7 years, and our little bearded dog is as healthy as ever!

Part of what keeps our little guy running at top speed is a rotation diet. About once or twice a year, we slowly switch Wrigley’s food over to another premium, holistic dog food formula or brand. We’ve found that, for Wrigley, this occasional variation keeps him healthy and interested in food, with the added bonus that he is getting a different set of proteins and unique nutritional formulas. And this is where Solid Gold comes in.

[Disclosure: We were sent a bag of Solid Gold Wild Heart with Quail, Chickpeas, and Pumpkin for review. All views and opinions are our own.]

I’ve heard good things about Solid Gold holistic foods for a while, so when they reached out to us about trying one of their formulas, I was definitely intrigued — plus, it was about time to switch things up with Wrigley. Solid Gold has a huge selection of dog food for just about every kind of nutritional need (there are 19 different dry dog food options and wet food formulas… oh, and they have cat foods, too!). Each features unique, holistic blends of super foods, protected probiotics, and the highest-quality proteins available. Dry recipes are produced in the USA with no meat by-product meal, corn, wheat, soy, sugar, artificial preservatives or flavors added.

After looking over their available products, we chose the “Wild Heart with Quail, Chickpeas, and Pumpkin” recipe, which is grain and gluten-free. Over about 8 days, we slowly transitioned Wrigley over to Wild Heart with great results. (Although, if he had is way, he would have gobbled up the entire bag in one sitting — he LOVES this stuff.) Wrigley can sometimes be disinterested in food, but with Solid Gold, he couldn’t seem to get enough. So, clearly it gets two paws up from him.

As far as my observations, Wrigley’s coat has already started to get softer (which I didn’t think was possible) and he seems to have a bit more energy during the day. He didn’t have any issues transitioning over to this food as far as digestive upset goes (no gas or soft stool at all — yay). Wrigley is also prone to “schnauzer bumps” and has been having flareups quite a bit lately, but after switching over to Solid Gold Wild Heart, his skin condition has improved (and trust me when I say we are “doing all the things” to combat these flareups with everything from medicated shampoos to supplements to you name it). So, Solid Gold gets two thumbs up from me!
