For those who aspire to the highest standard of living (don’t we all?), Forma Italia has created a stunning furniture line for pets. Each piece is designed and manufactured in Italy with high quality materials and with the health, safety, and comfort of your pet in mind.

Denver-based architect Andrew Wright needed a house for his Australian Shepherd that was sturdy enough to protect her from the harsh Winter elements. Passionate about design in all forms and sizes, he decided to design and build his own dog house he named the “Savannah Cabannah” after the dog that inspired him. Fortunately, for all of you DIY’ers out there, Andrew’s Savannah Cabannah plans and building instructions are available for purchase.

For $20, Andrew will email you his copyrighted high quality PDF files and JPEG files with 100% accurate dimensions. Or, for an additional $4 (S/H + printing costs), he’ll print the plans out on 11″x17″ paper and mail them to you. The package includes nine pages of very simple and visually graphic instructions on how to put this dog house together. Below are a couple of page examples for the large house, but additional plans available for small, medium, and extra large dogs.

According to Andrew, the project cost him about $80 to complete. This price included wood, a box of screws, corrugated metal, and even refreshments! On this page under “cost,” Andrew gives some great tips on how to save money when building your own Savannah Cabannah. If you’re handy with tools and looking for a great weekend project, this might just be a cool task worth taking on. Designed for the 2010 Barkitecture in Houston, TX, this Rocker merges a rocking chair and dog house into one — what he calls “hybrid furniture.”

Last year on Design Milk, David van Alphen shared the process of his building a modern shed in his backyard. This year, he decided that since his best friend isn’t allowed in his backyard studio, Hopper deserved his very own mini-version.

Miller Pet Products has come up with the idea to help keep dogs cool in the summer and warm in the winter even when outside. Made of 20% recycled materials and designed to be mostly underground, this eco-friendly dog house uses the Earth’s own temperature control system to heat and cool a special space for your dog. According to Miller Pet Products, the shell is “indestructible,” leak-proof, UV resistant, chew-proof, and comes with a lifetime warranty. Plus, with it partially buried, you won’t miss too much of your precious back yard space.

The Crazy Dog dog house from Borella Design comes in large and small. Each is made from aluminum with a wood base and a laser-cut dog bone detail. There’s also one for cats with a fishbone on it.

Pousse Creative is a young French design brand specializing in designs for pets, including cats, dogs, and birds (even chickens!). These indoor/outdoor planters include an interior cutout in which your pet can shade from the sun or take a snooze.
