When the good folks from Vancouver-based design studio Gamla Studio emailed me with the subject line “Walnut and Brass Dog Den” I couldn’t open it fast enough. Walnut? And brass?? I wasn’t sure if my mixed-material-loving, crazy-dog-lady heart could handle the images that awaited my gaze. Then I opened the email and saw this:
WHOA. Now that is a thing of beauty, my friends.
I’ve seen a rise in”slow feeder” designs recently and with each new iteration, they seem to become less and less like traditional bowls (with a random “bump” in the middle) and more like puzzles that just happen to have your dog’s daily meals in them. The Slo-Bowl from Kyjen is the most recent example of this interactive-game-inspired slow feeder design — read more about it below!
I was stoked to see that the featured seller this past week on Etsy was none other than Brooklyn’s Go! Pet Design, whose innovative designs we’ve featured occasionally in the past. (You might remember their awesome ei2 wire crate.) Their shop is full of great new designs I hadn’t seen yet, from bed covers made from reclaimed U.S. Army material, to waxed canvas “pup” tents, to walnut and maple leash hooks — all handmade and designed with both beauty and utility in mind. Be sure to head over to their full collection and check out those gorgeous Hairpin and Spoke steel feeders. They make me shiver with delight.
I love the Mid-Century vibe of these raised pet feeders from Modern Mews. Available in a variety of colors, these birch plywood and steel feeders come in a double bowl or triple bowl option.
The PawNosh Cubby Bowl is an innovative new pet bowl handmade in the USA from 100% post-consumer recycled glass. These gorgeous bowls are not only Earth-friendly, but they’re pet-friendly too: glass is the only food and beverage material generally recognized as safe for humans by the FDA, making these bowls completely non-toxic! So that means you don’t have to worry about weird chemicals leaching into your pet’s food — yay!
A fresh, new design in ergonomic feeders is here! This modern raised feeder from Choco & Cherry combines high-tech design and old-world craftsmanship: the precisely-cut, bent, and polished acrylic stand contrasts the kiln-fired, hand-painted ceramic bowl to create a fun, angled spin on the typical raised feeder, designed specifically for small dogs.
The BOB Pet Bowl by PetPet Studios is a 2-in-1 raised feeder with one rather unique feature: a built-in moat to prevent ants and other creepy-crawlies from reaching your pet’s food! And, with such a small footprint, this BPA-free feeder is a great addition to apartments, offices, or other areas tight on space.
Not surprisingly, Wrigley was beyond excited to test run the BOB Pet Bowl (A few “sits” and “stays” for a bunch of yummy food?? Sign that dog up, STAT!). Check out our review below!
