Pop Art Pet Portraits by Karren M. Garces

Oooh, you guys. I just love these colorful pet portraits by artist Karren M. Garces! I’m thinking Wrigley and Smash would look mighty swell with a little pop art treatment — what about your pups?

Your Pet and You is a series of portraits by German photographer Tobias Lang featuring, well, pets (of all kinds) and their beloved humans! Currently, the project is on-going with the hopes of turning the resulting collection into a coffee table book and, eventually, an exhibition.

It’s a new month (already?!), which means it’s time for a new Scratchbook artist! I hope you’re excited, because our Scratchbook this month features the work of the immensely talented Evie Kemp. I’m a HUGE fan of her bold illustration style and am flattered that she chose Wrigley and Smash as her Scratchbook muses!

I LOVE THESE. If you’re looking for a fun and unique gift idea for yourself (hey, why not?) or your dog-obsessed friend, consider one of these felt doggies from Eleni Creative! Each fuzzy pup is hand-stitched, hand-stuffed, and designed to look just like your beloved Fido. You can even have multiples made into a hanging mobile! Aaaaamazing.

Dog Stalking is a weekly column on Striped Cat Studio, a design and lifestyle blog by Bay Area designer Kate Wong, that features watercolor illustrations of dogs Kate has met during her recent adventures. So far, she has profiled 15 adorable dogs (my favorite might be Chicken, a sweater-wearing Chihuahua mix that will dance and spin for treats) with more added each week.

To say that I’m excited about this month’s Scratchbook artist would be a huge understatement! Seriously. I am so stoked, you guys. When Jana Bonsignore, whose fashion-inspired illustrations we featured last year, sent in the illustrations we commissioned for March, I kinda lost my mind (in a good way). This series, which she’s calling “Fun Facts“, features several adorable — and amusingly sassy — French Bulldogs. Read on to see them all!

I’m super, super thrilled to kick off our second month of The Scratchbook with one of my favorite illustrators ever: Jo Chambers of Studio Legohead. I’ve been a huge admirer of Jo’s work for many years and am beyond excited to have her as our February Scratchbook artist. And, since February is the month of hearts and candy and ooey-gooey confessions of love, it’s only appropriate to feature some of Dog Milk’s “canine couples”!

Rumor has it, Smash and Coco Bean of Chic Sprinkles have had an on-going relationship for some time. It comes as no surprise, then, that they would choose February, the month of love, to publicly address these rumors — and ignite renewed interest in their fiery love affair. But, will the flames of passion burn eternal? Only time will tell.
