My Animal Activist is a small independent venture founded in 2010 by photographer, video editor, and a wonderful self-proclaimed crazy dog lady named Amy. Her mission is to use creative ways to communicate and promote responsible pet choices and the idea that all creatures of this earth deserve respect.

I love how clever and well-designed My Animal Activists’ Righteous Bitch collection is. The messages on the Activist apparel dog tees and bags are simple, yet so smart and well thought out, that I can’t help but give some real thought to what’s being communicated. I completely adore Amy’s approach to delivering a powerful message.

Once you get past the tees and accessories, be sure and check out the “classy” greeting card collection. I can already think of about ten people I must send these to. Classy bitches travel in packs? Yes! Absolutely.

Designer Vina Lam Lillvis’ first baby was an adopted Beagle named Dodger. After giving birth to her second baby, a baby girl named Bailey, she searched everywhere trying to find them matching outfits. After her search ended with zero results, she took matters into her own hands and created Babawowo, an adorable line of dog and baby apparel.

I am completely smitten with the cute, simple, and modern graphics Babawowo features. These sets are perfect for the new urban mom who has recently expanded her family from four-legged babies to two-legged babies.

I’m completely in love with the I am the big/little brother/sister shirts because I often warn my dog that someday he’s going to have to make way for a baby and be the best big brother he can. I don’t think he’s terribly excited about this possibility, but perhaps matching outfits will help. American Digs is a brand new dog apparel label that just launched their debut line of clothes and accessories inspired by timeless styles seen in human apparel. Aiming to “meet the needs of consumers who increasingly view their dogs as family and demand higher-quality products than they have in the past,” American Digs sources and manufacturers all of their products right here in the USA.

American Digs was founded by Erika and Brandon, two recent business school graduates who shared an affinity for dogs and felt that the dog products and apparel industry was not meeting the needs of the market. American Digs was born on the belief that “dogs deserve better” and strives to provide products that dogs are proud to wear.

Among the items in the new collection are dog polo shirts, sweaters, classic button-down shirts, puffer coats, bandanas, scarves, collars and leashes available in a range of vibrant colors. I’m partial to the seersucker; it’s just my dog Miles’ style! Be sure to check out this entire must-see collection! For the time being, American Digs is available online only, but will soon be making its way into select pet boutiques nationwide.

Someone sent me a link to some cute baby clothes and accessories from South American brand Picnic, and I discovered they had a super selection of adorable pet products as well. Go ahead, match your baby to your dog.

Shikisai is design duo Noto Hirotsugu and Noto Miyo who create cheeky t-shirts that have some sort of 3D element. We featured their Venetian Blinds shirt a while back on Design Milk. Now, they’ve gone to the dogs with a series of doggie t-shirts available through Everyday Studio. I’m loving the Dog Walk tee with the real shoelaces!

For those of you with serious breed pride, dog shirts have your dog’s name written all over them. Well, their breed at least. Vintage inspired and made from super soft 50/50 poly cotton blend in Los Angeles, CA, they’re made to look like your dog’s favorite worn-in tee.

Mijo & Bambi is a San Francisco-based small pet company that makes dog apparel from mostly organic, remnant, and/or recycled fabrics for toy breed dogs. Each piece is made locally in downtown San Francisco. Three percent of each purchase is donated to animals in need.

Although the battle for total acceptance is far from over, it is wonderful to see that more people are starting to accept the graying boundaries of what defines a family unit. I was excited when I discovered that Best in Show, one of my favorite San Francisco pet stores, had developed a private label line with products that celebrate and honor one type of modern family we’re seeing today.

Keeping in mind that there are all different types of families in the world, Best in Show’s own artist designed these shirts to celebrate everyone’s love. Both owner and dog can share their modern family pride with everyone!

To celebrate my own modern family, I think I’m going to have to pick up one of these “Dogs are the New Kids” tote bags. In my family, dogs certainly are the new kids. I always laugh when I hear my parents comment about how all of their grandchildren have four legs (for now at least). Kudos to Best in Show for celebrating diversity! Modern families like mine appreciate it.
