Remember back when I posted about these Greenies Pill Pockets? Well, I invested in a bag of the Roasted Duck and Pea Formula, which they call their “Allergy Formula,” so that I can give Lulu some pills at night. I got the capsules, but they also have a tablet size.

The bag was somewhere around $8, which I thought was a little high, but I’m sure you could get them on sale or use a coupon. Certainly not a product you would want to purchase if you give your dog a pill once or twice a day every day all year long. However, these are great for when you need to give your dog some medicine for shortened periods of time.

I opened up the bag and — wooooo, man — let me tell you that these are stinky. In trying to describe the potent smell I have come up with phrases like “peanut butter of pantries past” and “wet cat food with a side of nose plugs.” I think those are accurate. Of course, the smell doesn’t bother my dogs as I had two very interested spectators at my side the minute I cracked open the bag.

In case you’re wondering what they’re made of, here are the ingredients directly from the bag: Duck, glycerin, dried peas, natural flavors, vegetable oil, water, salt, potassium sorbate (to preserve freshness), xanthan gum, citric acid, preserved with mixed tocopherols (a source of Vitamin E). No old peanut butter here!

These are so easy to use. You simply insert the pill(s) into the hole in the treat and then use your fingers to mash the opening together so that the pills don’t fall out. You can fit two small capsules or one large capsule inside each one.

Despite the funky smell, I’d say these are one of the better ways in which I’ve distributed meds to my dogs. Lulu practically swallows the treat whole. I would definitely buy these again.

Andrea over at Bocce’s Bakery sent me some of her Grandma’s Apple Pie snacks for my puppies. They’re a really good size for my dogs — not too big yet satisfying enough. Not much I can say about the bone-shape except that I still find it adorable even though it’s pretty played out.

The ingredients: organic oat flour, local NY organic apples, local NY clover honey, fresh ground organic peanut butter, and organic non-fat yogurt. Sounds like something I would have for breakfast. I like that they don’t have too much grain in them and that she uses local ingredients. And PB. My dogs, like most dogs can’t get enough peanut buttery goodness.

And with the sound of the bag, like clockwork, the dogs appear. “Mom, can we have one?”

Mary Ellen sent me a sampling of Ma Snax’s some yummy treats to check out. When I opened each bag, it was like opening a cookie jar. I kid you not, these smell delish. And, the Double Pumpkin Happiness treats smell so good that I almost took a bite of one, but then realized that my dogs were staring at me. I bet if you took that recipe and added sugar you’d have pumpkin sugar cookies…or maybe not because I’m no baker! But don’t get me wrong — these aren’t junk food. All of the guilt-free ingredients are organic, all-natural, and/or whole grain, and these snacks are made with cage-free eggs. Perfect for any dog’s diet.

I put one of the pumpkin ones in front of Lulu’s nose and she sniffed it for a while before she realized it was a treat. She’d never smelled pumpkin before! Then, without a second thought, she gobbled it up (and looked at me for more).

I love this grain-free option for pets who have sensitive stomachs and allergies (jeez, what do I know about dog allergies?!?!)

These — no joke — smell like green apples.

These treats are huge! Certainly too big for Beans to eat all at once, so I break them in half and give one half to each dog. These are probably the right size snack for Lulu, who is slightly over 70lbs. Take a look (I have big hands!):

This week, my dogs started to show some signs of allergies again: red, raw ears, bumps above the eyes, lots of scratching. We have been giving them antihistamines, and they don’t take pills easily. In fact, it’s a big PITA. Beans is worse than Lulu — he spits it out no matter what. I wish we had some of these Greenies Pill Pockets on hand, it would make it a lot easier. They need to make these in veggie, white fish or duck. They make them in duck flavor! I’m going to grab some of these this weekend and let you know how they work out.

Big Daddy Biscuits are handpressed all natural dog biscuits made in Georgia. The company started when biscuit maker Lauren found an American Bulldog (like Lulu!) wandering around the streets of Atlanta. Now known as Big Daddy, because of his life on the streets and malnourishment, he developed toxoplasmosis, a parasitic infection that causes blindness. After nursing Big Daddy back to health, together he and Lauren (AKA “Big Mama”) make some seriously tasty biscuits, according to Beans and Lulu.

I was sent a fun bagged mix of the Dinner Mints, Cheesy Bites with Garlic, and Crunchy Peanut Butter Treats. While taking photos, I actually started to get hungry…the cheesy bites smell like cheese crackers.I guess if you were out and about and super hungry, you could even eat these, as the ingredients are flour, cheese, garlic and milk!

What I liked best about these is that the ingredients were all easy to recognize and read…no super-long difficult-to-pronounce words.

While I was photographing, the pups heard me fiddling with the bag because I looked down and this is what I saw:

How could I turn down those cute faces? I gave them each a cheesy garlic treat and a dinner mint. They love them. And let me just tell you that my dogs eat white fish and their breath stinks, and these dinner mints are fantastic at keeping the stink at a minimum.

Magenta Inc. has some great dog stuff, if you’re into this type of look. It’s not a very contemporary look, but I still think it could work in a modern space. San Francisco-based designer Rae Dunn does a great job of creating pieces simple enough to blend into any decor.

A few weeks ago, I posted those Zen bowls from Wetnoz and I wondered, where are those adorable candy-like bones from? Well, I found them!
